White Slaves 3

I stumbled on this alternate history story quite by accident, but it matches well with the numerous other adjusted history accounts come to light in recent decades. I was just surprised by this one.

CLASH OF THE GODS - History Channel

CLASH OF THE GODS was running a marathon yesterday, and I was listening to it in the background most of the day. Given the name, I was inclined to take it as a Mythos oriented rather than history oriented series, but as I listened to one show after another, I noticed a theme of trying to find the reality behind the mythos in every story. I was actually quite surprised just how many and extreme mythical story lines could be fairly well tied to the likely reality behind the myth. I was also surprised how much historical information survived from events that seem so deeply buried in mythos. You can follow this show from your TV provider, or online through the link provided.

Ice Cream History

It is getting seriously hot out there today, so I thought of something cold and comforting to balance off that heat. I actually found a number of articles on the history of Ice Cream:
The History of Ice Cream from idfa.org (International Dairy Foods Association
Ice Cream form WikiPedia.org
The History of Ice Cream from The Old Farmers Almanac (Almanac.com)
Food Timeline FAQs: ice cream & ice from FoodTimeLine.org
History of Ice Cream The origins of ice cream can be traced back to at least the 4th century B.C. from Inventors.About.com
If you want to explore this topic in much more detail I found these sources on Amazon.com:

History of Marriage: 13 Surprising Facts

History of Marriage: 13 Surprising Facts found on LiveScience.com
for those who have not looked into it, many of these 13 points may seem surprising. However a lot of the conclusions drawn by this article about how and why Marriage has changed over the years seems obvious if you think about it. Some really big changes have happened within the last century, that we have already accepted as absolutely standard and normal, and yet at the time these changes happened, they were traumatic changes in the balance of power and value systems. Hence the big recent change, can now seem a lot less traumatic than many have made it out to be.
Lest you think these positions are recent changes to our values, here are a few books that actually pre-date recent changes that discuss most of the same topics, all available through Amazon.com.

One of my Favorite Destination States Florida in History

A Brief History from Florida Dept of State covers a short quick summary of 12000 BC to post WWII on it's main page but links to much more.
Wikipedia has a much more comprehensive main page following the classic format of it's page and the detailed opinions of it's sources. It is text intense.
History.com has a more dynamic page, cleaner and more modern in appearance, but less detailed on it's face. I did not chase it's links around, but some videos might make it seem more portable oriented.
Of course Youtube lists the longest Video History story:

1 hour 13 minutes long.

History of Texas in National Flags

Texas has had a varied history of National Flags flying over it's soil. I tend to remember most of them, but also to get stumped repeatedly over just one. Here are a few web pages that detail that flag history: Lone Star Junction, Wikipedia , CRWFlags.com , Texas State Historical Association , SonOfTheSouth.net. If you read them through and count the images of the flags vs. their names, it looks like more than six. But each image has a story about why it appears distinct from our expectations.

It's the 50th Anniversary of Medicare!!! LBJ's Great Society ...

I am a product, myself of LBJ's great society, in that I would never have afforded an education such as it is, without it. But the other part of LBJ's GS was the achievement of Medicare Passage, something others before him had failed to achieve. Here is a resource detailing the History of that event on Biography.com

Branson Mo History

Today I was thinkung about one of my favorite summer them parks. Why because it's situated in the Ozark Mountains, and has a lot of deciduous tree shade to keep the heat level under control. But what does that have to do with history, well every destination you choose has some amount of local history. And these days a simple google can sometimes find a good history page like this one

If you want to plan a trip to this historic city here are a few books on the subject:

And then here is a great page time outlining the history of Branson attractions.

And one more page about Branson History click here
